Eddie Murphy’s son Eric and longtime pal Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, are married!
Murphy, 64, broke the news during a reunion with Dreamgirls costar Jennifer Hudson on the Thursday, May 29, episode of her talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show.
The Beverly Hills Cop star revealed that Eric, 35, and Jasmin, 29, tied the knot around “two weeks ago” in an intimate church ceremony, eschewing a grand wedding.
“Everybody was making the big wedding plans and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” the actor said, joking that Lawrence, 60, no longer had to pay for a “big wedding.” (Lawrence previously joked that Murphy expected him to foot the bill for the ceremony.)
“We’re in-laws,” Murphy added of his new familial connection to Lawrence, with whom he costarred in 1992’s Boomerang and 1999’s Life.
Hudson asked whether the father of the groom sang at the wedding, prompting Murphy to reiterate that Eric and Jasmin “didn’t have a wedding.”
“They went off and they got married at the church,” the actor said. “They just had the two of them and the preacher. They had a quiet little thing.”
Murphy said that he expects the lovebirds will throw a “big party” in the future so their loved ones can celebrate the union — and the merging of two of Hollywood’s most famous families.
While Eric and Jasmin are building a new life together as husband and wife, their dads are planning to reunite on the big screen, Murphy said.
“Well, there’s a bunch of ideas that we have,” the Nutty Professor actor shared. “There’s one thing: It’s a [Mad, Mad] Mad, Mad World, an old movie from the ‘60s that I want to remake and do with all the funniest … like a who’s who of Black comics. That’s what I want to do. And, of course, Martin would be in that.”
Murphy’s son and Lawrence’s daughter first revealed their engagement in November 2024 via a touching Instagram video.
“11.27.2024 We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter ❤️❤️,” Jasmin captioned the post. “Special thank you to everyone who made this moment so beautiful!!”
In the video, the pair, in matching black ensembles, walked down an aisle of flower petals and stood in front of a giant red heart filled with butterflies and surrounded by candles. Eric then got down on one knee and proposed to Jasmin with a gorgeous ring. “It’s beautiful,” she said before they sealed the engagement with a kiss.
Eric, who is Murphy’s oldest son with his ex-girlfriend Paulette McNeely, and Jasmin, Lawrence’s first child with ex-wife Patricia Southall, have been dating since 2021. Murphy is also the father to nine other children, while Lawrence has two younger daughters with ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs.
