He’s on fire!

The Manhattan Borough president race is heating up as one candidate emerges as a favorite among union workers.

Democrat Keith Powers, a City Council member representing Manhattan’s 4th District, just scored two major fire union endorsements in addition to his already impressive list of labor industry backers.

The Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) and the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) threw their hats in the ring to back up the councilman, joining myriad powerful unions that include the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ and the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council.

“Keith Powers is our choice for Manhattan Borough President because of his long-standing commitment toward the brave men and women who protect our city,” UFA President Andrew Ansbro said of the candidate.

Calvin Sun, an emergency medicine doctor turned political hopeful, and New York state Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal are running against the councilman for Manhattan’s highest honor.

Hoylman-Sigal has received an endorsement from various fellow politicians, including former Manhattan BP Ruth Messinger and Congressman Dan Goldman.

He also has the backing of the Communications Workers of America.
