A fire in Brisbane’s south has shrouded the city in smoke, but does not pose a risk to infrastructure, according to firefighters.
One crew from the Queensland Fire Department was on the scene of the small bushfire at Oxley Creek Common, a large grassland park popular with morning runners and dog walkers, in Sherwood.
The fire department said the fire was sparked about 3am.
A northerly breeze pushed a significant amount of smoke over the southern suburbs and into the city, and a warning to avoid smoke in Sherwood, Rocklea, Oxley and Tarragindi was current at 7.15am.
Residents of those neighbourhoods were encouraged to stay inside with their windows and doors closed, and to keep respiratory medication at hand if they required it.
A Brisbane Airport spokesperson said no flights had been affected.
