Four people are dead in what police are treating as a murder-suicide in the western Perth suburb of Mosman Park.
Officers were called to the scene just after 8am on Friday, arriving to find a 50-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman and two boys aged 14 and 16 dead.
Major crime division Detective Inspector Jessica Securo said the four were believed to all be part of the same family unit.
“At this stage, there’s two parents and two children, so we would treat it as a double murder-suicide,” she said.
Securo said a note was left, but police would not disclose its contents at this stage.
A person known to the family contacted police after arriving at the home and receiving no response.
Police would also not disclose how the people died, but Securo said a weapon was not used, and it did not appear to be a violent incident.
“We do know that both children experienced significant health challenges.
“This tragic incident occurred only this morning, and it will take time for police to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”
Five ambulance crews were rushed to the scene, and members of the public have been urged to stay away from the area, with several nearby streets blocked off.
Securo said the situation was “highly distressing” for all involved.
“The officers are understandably in shock after being confronted with such an incident like this,” she said.
“It’s not often that our officers come across such a tragic event with this many persons deceased.”
More to come.
