The arson squad is looking into what could have sparked two fires on the same street only minutes apart, despite the blazes being hundreds of metres away from each other.

The first fire started in the garage of a home along Huntriss Road in Doubleview on Wednesday before a second home further down the road also began.

Firefighters were able to control both within the hour, but the homes were destroyed and at least four others have been damaged.

“Within the space of about 500 to 600 metres two houses in two minutes just going up in smoke,” Brodie Allen, a witness, told 9News Perth.

“I’m still a little bit shaken, I thought it was my house.”

Another witness, David Foster, said the flames had been intense.

“The smoke was very bad, it was thick black and white smoke and the flames were about 20 feet high,” he said.

Emergency tape still remains around the properties as the cause is investigated further. They are not believed to be linked.

An e-scooter was seen outside one of the properties, but it has not yet been identified as a cause.
