A non-publication order preventing the public from hearing evidence from the former teen athlete who accused Alan Jones of indecent assault has been lifted.
Judge Glenn Walsh, in the final minutes of Thursday’s hearing, lifted a two-day non-publication order over the evidence given by a man, known only as “J”, under cross-examination by Jones’ barrister, Gabrielle Bashir, SC.
The court earlier heard Alan Jones paid “J” hundreds of dollars a week to help with his athletic career from his late teens, in the early 2000s, to his late 20s.
Jones has denied allegations he indecently assaulted “J”, starting with unwanted kissing when the man was a teenager in year 12.
Bashir’s questioning, sometimes terse and argumentative, accused the man of concocting claims Jones had kissed him at his properties.
“You were physically superior to Alan Jones?” Bashir asked “J” after the younger man alleged Jones painfully squeezed his penis while the pair were in a car together.
“You competed for Australia (in athletics), you needed strong legs and thighs.”
“Not necessarily,” the man said, before agreeing he was “physically superior” to Jones.
Bashir said “J” had concocted the story.
“You were driving the car, with the brake under your foot, you had the key, you managed to slow the car down when you saw workmen on the car,” she said.
“Your account of what occurred in the car is not true.”
“Yes it is,” the man replied.
