Katy Perry was looking for her legendary lover, and she found just that in her boyfriend Justin Trudeau.
The “Firework” singer opened up about meeting the former Canadian prime minister during her Lifetimes Tour last year in a new interview with People published on Wednesday, September 2.
Perry, 41, recalled news of her split from Pirates of the Caribbean actor Orlando Bloom breaking during the tour in June 2025, while she was performing in Australia.
“It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away,” Perry said. “But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”
The following month, Perry was spotted out on a dinner date with Trudeau, 54, in Montreal, and he attended her show two days later.
Perry said she “got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life.”
“I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?” she said of her relationship with Bloom, 49, with whom she shares daughter Daisy Dove, 6. “I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up.”
Trudeau went on to attend several stops on the Lifetimes Tour.
“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” Perry told the magazine.
In June, Perry gushed that Trudeau was the “love of my life” during a Q&A following a screening of her new concert film, The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris, at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
“Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that,” Perry said of her November 2025 tour dates in Paris, which were filmed for the concert movie. “I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”
During a Q&A following an August VIP screening of The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris, attended by Us, Perry recalled how she felt nervous performing in front of Trudeau for the first time in Montreal.
“I always create a super special fan experience. But I don’t typically get nervous. Maybe I get some butterflies on the first show because it’s all the things coming together, and because of social media, you want to kind of get it right,” she said. “But in Montreal, you know, this is the tour. This is the Lifetimes Tour. When the documentary comes, y’all might see me in a different way because … in Montreal, I was like, ‘I can’t look at him.’ A lot of energy.”
