A Melbourne woman who disappeared in Las Vegas just a day before she was meant to return home messaged a friend on Facebook, new documents reveal.
Sally Contarino was booked to fly back to Australia on June 21 and land the following day, but she never boarded the bus she’d bought a ticket for, nor checked in at the airport.
A missing person’s report that details what happened to Contarino before her disappearance was released to this masthead by Las Vegas police.
Her sisters, Lauren and Amy, believe she may have been planning one more hike before returning to Los Angeles and flying home to Melbourne.
The young woman left Melbourne on June 13 to fly to Nevada.
The report reveals she messaged a person on social media, who The Age has decided not to name, that she planned to hike at “Lone Mountain” on June 20.
“Not known if she was with a person,” the report reads.
Her sisters told Nine News that the 26-year-old messaged a friend to tell them: “I fly back tomorrow.”
According to the missing person’s report, her last contact was at close to midnight on June 20 with the same person she told about the hike.
Her sisters, Amy and Lauren, told Nine News about the awful moment the realisation set in that Sally had not made it home.
“Later into that same day, the panic really started to set in because we still hadn’t heard from her, and you could no longer make it about the time difference, and that became very scary,” Amy said.
“Look, we believe that somebody out there does know something.”
According to the report, Contarino usually used an app to transfer funds, and there was no way to track her iPhone.
In recent days a video of Contarino that was filmed days before she vanished, has emerged.
In the video she is filmed outside what appears to be a petrol station.
The footage was uploaded to social media by a user who had filmed the young woman while he was wearing a pair of Meta glasses.
The video is not thought to have any connection to her disappearance.
Anyone with information is urged to call Victoria Police.
