A man who allegedly tried to lead a boy away from a park on the northern Gold Coast has been charged with assault.

The 50-year-old man approached the 11-year-old boy at Esplanade South Park in Paradise Point, and began a conversation with him about 3pm on Wednesday.

It is alleged he continually touched boy’s shoulder before trying to lead him away.

A police spokesperson said a member of the community noticed the interaction, and called the police, who arrested the man nearby.

The man was charged with common assault, and was expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 12.

The park is a long strip of grass next to the marina at Moreton Bay, with a playground at the southern end near the Paradise Point Sailing Club.
