A mother and two children are believed to be the victims of a fatal domestic violence attack in a south-west Sydney home on Monday night, triggering a major police operation that has led to the arrest of the man understood to be the father of the children.

The three bodies were discovered inside the residence on Raymond Avenue, Campbelltown after 7pm, following reports of an emergency in the two-storey family home.

Police sources confirmed the bodies discovered are believed to be those of the mother and two children living at the address. The father of the children has been taken into custody while detectives investigate.

Several police cars and ambulances were dispatched on Monday night. Paramedics attempted resuscitation efforts on the women and two children but were unsuccessful.

Police have cordoned off the residence where the three people were found. Officers have established a perimeter covering much of the street as they investigate the circumstances leading to the deaths.

NSW Police are expected to address media from Campbelltown later this evening.
