Shocking video shows an idiotic Philadelphia man hanging from a moving train – and he is now at the center of a SEPTA investigation.
The passenger – who was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and one earphone – crouched and swayed as he held onto the back of an L train traveling between the city’s 40th Street and 46th Street stations in the footage shared online Tuesday, NBC10 reported.
The man’s reckless stunt was recorded by stunned passengers inside the train car, who uploaded it to social media and opted for the “Spider-Man” theme tune.
“Only in Philly,” the video’s caption said, lamenting the shocking scenes.
Passengers couldn’t believe someone would ride a train from the outside, potentially putting their life at risk.
“Never seen nothing like that, that’s madness,” Edquardo Chinnell, a passenger from Germantown, told WPVI.
“You are dancing on a thin line of life and death, because anything could happen,” Cody Langley said.
The man’s bizarre behavior is now at the center of a SEPTA investigation.
“I don’t understand what makes people want to do something this dangerous,” Marc Pasquarella, the SEPTA police captain, said.
“It’s insane. It’s extremely dangerous. Obviously, falling off the train, seriously injured or killed.”
Pasquarella fears there will be copycats after footage went viral.
It’s not clear what day the incident happened, but Andrew Busch, a SEPTA spokesperson, said no injuries were reported.
Investigators are working to identify the man in the clip.
Authorities have warned that subway surfing can result in serious injury or death.
In July, a 16-year-old girl struck a beam and survived during a dangerous subway surfing stunt in Queens.
The teen was riding on top of the southbound A train pulling into the Broad Channel station when she suddenly rammed into a beam overhead during the afternoon stunt, law enforcement sources told the Post at the time.
Two months earlier, a 14-year-old boy died while riding on top of a subway on the Williamsburg Bridge.
There is also a risk of electrocution as some train tracks are electrified.
Surfaces on the outside of trains can be unstable or slippery and trains travel at high speeds, increasing the risk of injury to subway surfers.
