Reading Rainbow host Mychal Threets is sharing another health update after his recent hospitalization amid mental health issues.
“I was diagnosed as autistic and having ADHS on April 11, 2026. Recently, I was diagnosed with OCD and am Bipolar. WOW. I am proud to be neurodivergent. But it is not easy,” the TikTok famous librarian, 36, wrote via Threads on Friday, August 38, alongside a video of the influencer further explaining his mental health diagnoses.
“Thoughts are spiraling. My brain has not been kind with lack of sleep, nightmares, terrifying memory loss, not knowing what’s real, overwhelm, depression,” he continued in the post’s caption. “But my brain has not given up on me. Hope and joy are present amongst all of my mentionable and manageable feelings. Life is life, but please believe, you’re not alone.”
Threets recently celebrated a mental health milestone after revealing he had voluntarily checked himself into a hospital and was subsequently put on five-day psychiatric hold.
“Wow. Seven days in a row without having to battle thoughts & feelings trying to convince me to leave the land of the living,” he wrote via Threads on Thursday, August 27. “The most days in a row since November 2025.”
He added at the time, “Appreciating each [day], appreciating each tomorrow. We’re still here. I’m so happy you’re here.”
The joyful librarian’s many fans were quick to congratulate him on his progress following his hospitalization.
“So thankful for you, my friend! So grateful you are still here with us. You make this world a little bit brighter,” one user wrote.
“F*** yes. Not because seven days magically fixes everything, but because that’s seven mornings you mad eit to the once felt impossible. I’m so happy you’re here too,” another wrote. “Keep collecting tomorrows. One stubborn little sunrise at a time.”
Threets has been the host of the Reading Rainbow revival on YouTube since October 2025. The children’s program previously aired on PBS from 1983 to 2006 and was hosted by LeVar Burton.
Earlier this month, Threets sparked concern after he posted a cryptic message about his wellbeing while alluding that he had plans to check himself into a nearby hospital.
“I am not OK. Maybe I’ll never be OK. I’m seeking help. Going to the hopital [sic] tomorrow. In this moment I am safe. By God’s grace,” he shared via Threads on August 17. “No matter what happens to me I will always be thankful for the extraordinary people in my life who worry, who help me. Thank you for your care. I will always love you. 💚.”
