Specialist crews using heavy machinery, an excavator and a truck moved in on Wednesday afternoon to begin the process of removing a 31-tonne whale carcass beached at South City Beach for the past two days.
The 13-metre humpback whale was discovered early Monday morning, and soon began attracting large great white sharks close to shore, some more than five metres long.
