Investigations began in June after two men, aged 34 and 37, reported being sexually assaulted at the salon in Sydney’s inner south earlier in the year.

NSW Police said detectives arrested the owner at Salon DS, on the corner of Maloney Street and Gardeners Road, Rosebery, on Friday morning.

He was taken to Mascot police station and later charged with two counts of using an intoxicating substance to commit an indictable offence, and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

“Police will allege that the owner of the business contacted the men through an online dating platform before inviting them back to the salon, where they unknowingly ingested a substance before being sexually assaulted,” NSW Police Superintendent Andrew Garner said.

“We’ll allege that those incidents occurred in March and May of this year,” Garner said.

“It’s our understanding at this time that the victims weren’t known to … the man that’s been arrested, and the victims weren’t known to each other,” Garner said.

Police are still investigating what “substance” was used and how it was ingested, he added.

The salon was being scientifically examined on Friday, Garner said.
