Three-year-old girl killed in western Sydney car crash, driver charged with negligent driving occasioning death

A driver has been charged over the death of a three-year-old girl who was hit by a car believed to be entering a suburban driveway in Sydney’s west.

The girl was on Normanby Road, Auburn when she was struck by the black Range Rover about 2pm. She was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where she was declared dead.

The 27-year-old driver of the car was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing following the fatal crash.

After he was released from hospital, he was taken to Auburn police station and charged with negligent driving occasioning death. The man was granted conditional bail to face Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.

Police believe he is not related to the girl. His relationship with the occupants of the home, and the circumstances leading to the crash, are being investigated.

A crime scene was established and forensic officers photographed the Range Rover in the driveway of the suburban home, including the drivers’ seat and boot of the car.

Normanby Road lies one block behind The Crescent, a busy street that straddles the railway tracks to Auburn Station.
