Lang Park will be getting huge new screens, plus an LED ribbon screen that wraps around the entire stadium’s interior, plus at least 1000 new seats for fans to see them from.
The Queensland government announced the upgrade just hours before the second game in the men’s State of Origin series was due to kick off in Melbourne.
It’s screen-mania, with two exterior mesh screens, both the size of two tennis courts, to be draped from the stadium for fans to see as they approach.
Terraced spaces with seating and standing room will also be added behind the goals at each end, replacing the old screens.
“We’re adding new video screens, more capacity, new bars and entertainment zones, so whether you’re here for Origin, the Rugby World Cup, major concerts, you’ll have an unforgettable experience for years to come,” Premier David Crisafulli said.
The upgrades will be paid for with the Queensland Government’s Legacy Fund, with construction expected to begin before the end of the year.
In an interview with Nine, Crisafulli said that money was to have been a contingency, but the government did not need to save it for a rainy day in case the Olympic infrastructure blows out of budget.
“Because we are building things on time and on budget, we don’t need to put that to the side,” he said.
