As the fallout from Tiger Woods’ Friday, March 27, DUI arrest continues, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy is calling for the pro golfer to spend some time in jail.
“What is wrong with Tiger Woods?” Portnoy, 49, asked his listeners on the Monday, March 30 episode of his “Wake Up Barstool” podcast. “You can have somebody drive you. He should have a driver with him wherever he goes. There is no excuse.”
He continued, “When you get behind the wheel impaired, you’re not just putting yourself at risk, you’re putting anybody else on the road and innocent people at risk.”
Woods, 50, was arrested after he was involved in a rollover car accident in Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities charged the pro golfer with a DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test after he refused a urinalysis following a negative breathalyzer test.
An arrest affidavit obtained by Us Weekly revealed Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket at the time of his arrest. It also described Woods as “lethargic and slow,” with eyes that were “bloodshot and glassy” with “extremely dilated” pupils.
“You can’t make light of it, and I have no sympathy for the guy,” Portnoy added of Wood’s DUI. “Put him behind bars. Put him in jail for a little bit and make him wake up.”
Woods was also arrested in 2017 for a suspected DUI after he was found asleep at the wheel of his running car, admitting at the time to taking painkillers and eventually pleading guilty to reckless driving. He served 50 hours of community service, completed one year of probation and paid a $250 fine.
He was also injured in a 2021 car crash in which he was allegedly driving over 80 miles per hour — twice the posted speed limit. No charges were filed.
Perhaps most notably, Woods crashed his car into a fire hydrant in 2009, resulting in a careless driving charge and $164 fine. The crash came as reports of his alleged extra-marital affairs emerged, leading him to step away from golf and focus on therapy.
After this latest incident, Portnoy indicated it is time for Woods to face a more severe set of consequences before someone else gets hurt.
“It’s not hard,” Portnoy said. “Seriously, you cannot have sympathy for the guy right now. Get a driver, you’re going to kill somebody innocent.”
Portnoy isn’t the only one who has criticized Woods since his most recent arrest. Retired NFL star Emmanuel Acho blasted the pro golfer on the Sunday, March 29, episode of his late-night sports talk show, Speakeasy.
“Tiger, you got too many responsibilities, too much money, too much wisdom, and too many grey hairs to, at this big age, in this big year of 2026, be going to jail for DUIs,” Acho, 35, said. “You got kids, you got a family name, you’re an incredibly impactful, significant and successful figure. And beyond all of that, this isn’t your first incident.”
Golf commentator Brandel Chamblee added that at this stage in his life, Woods doesn’t need to golf anymore and that it might be time to step aside.
“Why would he need to play golf anymore?” he said on the Friday episode of Golf Central. “I think he should probably ask himself that. Consider not playing golf anymore.”
