The Welcome to Country ceremony at Melbourne’s Anzac day dawn service has been marred with booing from a faceless cohort in the crowd.
The Shrine of Remembrance lit up the skyline with a poppy-red glow on Friday morning as those who had come to pay their respects waited for dawn to break.

But boos shattered the hush of the sombre service as men shouted over Bunurong elder Uncle Mark Brown as he welcomed attendees to his father’s land.
The crowd cheered and clapped as the speaker tried to speak over the noise.

Brown raised his voice, and emotionally spoke of cultural exchange and diversity while the agitators tried to shout him down.
The peace was shattered again during an address by Victorian governor Margaret Gardner.
Event organisers and law enforcement rushed to identify the perpetrators in the dark.
