Cops descend on home of wife of slaughtered NY Times tech exec as her parents sit in jail for allegedly gunning him down

Cops descended on the home of the estranged wife of slain New York Times tech executive Jonathan McKinsey Tuesday night — with multiple officers seen entering her gated-community residence as her parents sit in jail accused of gunning him down.

A video from Tuesday shows officers arriving at what appeared to be townhomes inside the gated community around 7 p.m.

They banged on the door repeatedly until someone came outside and opened it.

The cops then swarmed inside one by one, eventually leaving the residence by 9 p.m.

No arrests were made during the search, and no property was seized by the officers.

The police activity comes just days after McKinsey, 40, was allegedly shot dead in Northern California by his elderly Chinese in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77.

Police said the shooting happened around 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds.

Witnesses said Zhang and Chen allegedly took turns shooting McKinsey.

The New York Times confirmed McKinsey was the victim and said he had worked for the newspaper since 2023. He was the Times’ head of engineering for games player experience.

McKinsey and his estranged wife, Candice Jang, were locked in a bitter custody fight involving their children around the time of his death.

Court records reviewed by The Post show McKinsey was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse by Alameda prosecutors in 2025.

A restraining order filed by McKinsey against Jang said Chen had visited the couple in 2023 to watch their children.

Court documents also show that a grandmother who allegedly gunned down her transgender New York Times executive son-in-law accused him of inspiring her grandson to wear his sister’s dresses.

McKinsey’s cousin, Lovell Garner, told The California Post the family was still struggling to process the killing.

“Well, it’s all still pretty fresh for me still,” Garner said. “So far, everyone in my immediate family is completely shocked. It seems obvious that they were done with him since they killed him. Not sure what would make them do something that extreme.”

Zhang and Chen remain in jail as the investigation into McKinsey’s killing continues.
