When a 50-year-old actor said in Spectrum that, “I’ve got the knees and the back of a 90-year-old retired librarian”, it didn’t sit well with Nola Tucker of Kiama: “As an almost nonagenarian, retired librarian I take exception to Stephen Curry of The Castle fame comparing his knees and back to such as mine. What did he think we were doing? Tell him he’s dreaming.”
“Geoff Gilligan’s Greek translation tale (C8) gave me a laugh and reminded me of my sad attempt at learning German,” admits Peter Pocock of Hornsby. “The only thing I can remember is ‘the coat hanger is in the wardrobe’. Haven’t used it yet, but you never know.”

“The article on self-driving cars brought to mind our recent experience in London,” writes Paul Koff of Glenhaven. “As we sped down the motorway, our Uber driver was extolling the virtues of his self-driving Tesla and its foolproof nature. To prove a point, he suddenly grabbed a guitar from the front passenger seat and began strumming it. We were taken aback and vaguely terrified, politely asking if he’d put his hands back on the wheel. He did so, laughingly telling us that many people have that reaction. Gee, how surprising.”
Rob Hosking of Paddington says he doesn’t think the Bee Gees (C8) “had reached the heights of their international fame when I passed Robin standing beside their battered Kombi in Park Street.”
Referring to “a celebrity encounter of the negative kind,” Charles Davies-Scourfield of Culburra Beach was “outside the Gazebo Hotel in the 1980s waiting for a cab with one other person. It was Christie Brinkley, the then wife of Billy Joel. A cab pulled up, and I heard her tell the driver she wanted to go into the city, as did I. ‘Would you mind sharing the cab please?’ said I. ‘Yes I would’ she said, closing the door.” Don’t worry Charles, she was probably only going uptown.
