A glamorous Irish TV host hoping to make it big in Hollywood claims she left Los Angeles in terror after a sinister stalker used an Apple AirTag to track her every move — and the tech giant did nothing to help, according to a lawsuit she filed against the company.
Blonde bombshell Aine O’Neill was horrified when she received an AirTag alert on her phone and realized the device was somewhere under her car in November 2022, the suit says.
She asked her roommate to help her find the tracking device, but neither of them could locate it, the court papers say.
O’Neill then discovered that the AirTag’s owner could follow her every move, including where she worked and slept, the suit says.
She immediately contacted the LAPD and Apple, but both said there wasn’t much they could do without the physical device, according to the papers.
Police even told her that “there’s no way this is anything but sinister,” the suit notes.
O’Neill took her car to a local Pep Boys, but crews at the auto shop were unable to find the AirTag, according to the lawsuit. She then visited a different shop that told her they would need to strip down her entire car for a fee she couldn’t afford, the suit says.
Terrified, O’Neill called out sick from work and cancelled all her appointments.
“Ms. O’Neill found herself barely able to get out of bed,” the lawsuit says. “She was constantly scared, peering out through her blinds, and leaving lights on in her apartment throughout the night,”
The court paper added: “She would get daily panic attacks whenever her roommate left the apartment and she was alone. ”
After continually getting AirTag alerts on her phone, O’Neill decided to flee LA because “she had no way of identifying her stalker or properly gauging the level of danger she was in,” the suit says.
O’Neill sold her car for scrap, grabbed whatever belongings she could and returned to Ireland — giving up a possible recurring role on the hit show “The Rookie” and other potential roles, according to the suit.
“I don’t even remember getting on the plane back to Ireland,” she said in the suit. “I felt like a zombie, like I wasn’t in my own body.”
O’Neill remains afraid to get behind the wheel of a car.
The host was once part of a class action suit against Apple, but now she is suing the company on her own. She’s seeking damages in an amount to be determined at trial.
