Heated online debate ensues after Shaboozey fan refuses to let child stand in front of her at concert: ‘Get there earlier’

A viral TikTok video has sparked a fiery online debate over concert etiquette, entitled parenting, and who really deserves the front-row view when music icons hit the stage.

The drama unfolded after a parent shared a recent experience at a concert featuring American singer-songwriter Shaboozey, known for his mega-hit A Bar Song (Tipsy).

According to the video, she approached a fellow concertgoer who had secured a prime view near the stage and asked if her 10-year-old daughter could step in front of her for one song so the child could see Shaboozey perform.

When the front row fan declined to give up her spot, the interaction quickly turned sour — leaving the internet divided, though overwhelmingly firmly on one side of the barrier.

‘Get there earlier’

The video, which has amassed over 15 million views and over 300,000 comments on TikTok, has reignited the age-old debate over the “entitlement” someone with a child may have.

While the mother reportedly felt the brief swap was a harmless gesture for a young fan, the broader internet has come out in defensive mode for the attendee who held her ground.

Commenters flooded the video, arguing that general admission operates on a simple, universally understood rule: first come, first served.

“She was there first,” one person commented.

“As a mom (sic) of kids who go to concerts, get there earlier. She’s not wrong,” another person emphasized.

“Sorry, but unless you got there before her to be in that spot … she doesn’t have to move … whether your kid can see or not. Either get there early to have that spot or buy tickets where you can see,” a third person wrote.

“I’m on her side. She waited there for a long time, and why would she allow anyone in front of her,” echoed a fourth.

Despite the rule of getting in early to secure your spot, others were agitated that the mother thought she was entitled to such behavior because she has a child.

“People don’t owe your kids anything,” one user wrote on TikTok.

“Kids are not vip passes,” a second stated.

“I’m so tired of people thinking kids should have a free pass to everything. Let them learn that life isn’t always fair,” a third person commented.

“As a mom myself, they literally don’t owe your child anything,” a fourth pointed out.

Even though most of the comments section were not on the mother’s side, a few empathetic users prevailed.

“What the heck? Is no one nice to kids anymore?” one person posted with the crying emoji.

“I mean she’s super tall, what does it hurt to let a kid be upfront for one song?” another questioned.

“To be fair, the 10-year-old is absolutely shorter than this woman. She could have let a child stand in front of her with ZERO impact on her view or experience. Maybe it isn’t owed, but it would be kind,” a third person claimed.

The general admission dilemma

Concertgoers noted that standing pits are inherently high-energy, crowded, and competitive environments.

Giving up a front-row spot — even for a single three-minute track — rarely ends with getting that spot back.

“I did that once, let a child go in front of me, she brought her siblings, then the mother, mother pulled in husband, and their entire family, I ended up being stuck way behind,” one person commented.

Others pointed out that parents taking young children into adult general admission areas need to adjust their expectations accordingly.

The incident highlights growing frustration surrounding crowd behavior and entitlement at live music events across Australia and globally, from phone towers blocking views to line-cutting in general admission.
