A Labor voter, I strangely find myself siding with former PM John Howard on gambling reform (“Albanese, Taylor hammer out deals on gambling and tech”, August 11). Howard’s call that both major parties should act in the “public interest” should be par for the course. His statement that “If that means disappointing big companies, then disappoint them” resonates from a time when politicians prosecuted good policies such as compulsory superannuation, capital gains tax and gun control reforms, regardless of vested interests.
