James Jordan is weighing in after offscreen concerns that Lioness won’t return after season 3.
“I certainly hope we return. I love playing this character,” Jordan, 47, who plays Two Cups, exclusively told Us. “I love going to work with these fantastic actors and great human beings. It’s a joy to go to work with them.”
Jordan had high hopes for the future, adding, “It’s always a pleasure to tell Taylor [Sheridan]’s stories. He’s my favorite writer in the world and in our business. There’s no one like him and I love bringing these characters to life.”
He continued, “So I hope we can go do another season. As long as that audience shows up and as long as people show up on Sunday night and say, ‘Where are we going next? Where’s the next fight going to take us?’ We’re going to keep making this show.”
The spy thriller, created by Sheridan, follows the leader of a CIA team who enlists female operatives — known as Lionesses — to go undercover in the ongoing war on terror.
The season 3 premiere pivoted away from introducing a new Lioness into the fold. Instead, the team will focus on their mission with Joe (Zoe Saldaña) as a dual timeline plays out the rest of the season.
“It’s cool because you get to see these folks as operators — tactically speaking — when they’re in that QRF mode. They are kicking down the doors and shooting the bad guys. We get to see this other skill set that they have,” Jordan noted. “They are going undercover where they are slipping in and out of different personalities and worlds while maintaining focus on the most important mission we’ve had — and that’s getting Joe back.”
Jordan was excited for fans to see how Lioness would keep shaking things up.
“The first season, the fight took us to the sea. The second season, the fight took us to the air and the third season, the fights come home,” he teased. “The bad guys have come to her front door and they’ve taken one of our teammates away.”
He concluded, “And not only just one of our teammates, our leader. So the stakes couldn’t be higher. So Two Cups is willing to do anything to get Joe back.”
As one of Sheridan’s frequent collaborators, Jordan previously told Us he was always looking forward to season 3 of Lioness being released.
“I can’t say no to the man. He’s my favorite writer in our business. I admire him. He’s a mentor. He’s a friend,” he gushed to Us. “No one works harder than Taylor. He never compromises. And when someone comes to you and says, ‘Hey man, I want to use you again in a project.’ If someone works that hard and comes to you and says, ‘I trust you, I believe in you, I’m confident in your ability,’ then you show up. You want to work your butt [off] for him.”
The actor celebrated the chance to keep working with Sheridan.
“You want to get it right. You want to tell the story the way he wants to tell the story. I love going to work for him,” he added. “So he’s an extraordinary guy.”
