Jeffrey Campbell divides internet with new ‘rage bait’ barefoot heel shoe

Jeffrey Campbell divides internet with new ‘rage bait’ barefoot heel shoe

Just when we thought the internet had barely recovered from the outrage surrounding the dreaded Chanel “barefoot heel,” iconic shoe brand Jeffrey Campbell has gone and brought the rage-bait design back into the social media spotlight.

You can now pay real money to walk around with your bare soles slapping the filthy pavement while technically still wearing heels.

The bizarre trend first sparked widespread horror when luxury powerhouse Chanel debuted the design on the runway — a style best described as a heel cap, a heel post, and a few delicate straps wrapped around the ankle.

No sole. No footbed. Just your bare skin directly touching whatever grime lies beneath.

It wasn’t long before actress Margaret Qualley shocked fans by debuting the look on the red carpet at the London premiere of The Dog Stars, causing a huge stir online.

Now, independent LA-based label Jeffrey Campbell has released its very own mid-tier dupe — and fashion fans on social media are having a complete meltdown.

Taking to Instagram to tease their rendition of the divisive footwear, which is not yet available on the brand’s website, the brand posted a snap of the ‘naked shoe.’

“It is official! We are an Idiocracy,” one person commented with the clapping emoji.

“Where do we wear this to, exactly?” a second person asked.

“So we are just going barefoot in this contaminated hellscape!?” another asked.

“I’ve had enough of this today,” a fourth person exclaimed.

“No. Stop right now,” another user chimed in.

“This has to be rage bait … right?” someone else asked.

“Why are we normalizing this?” another person questioned.

The post featured over 2,000 comments, with many people expressing disgust with the range, calling it “insane,” and some saying they “hate” the unique design.

While the concept of an unhinged shoe might leave casual shoppers scratching their heads, anyone who lived through 2010s Tumblr fashion knows this is business as usual for Jeffrey Campbell.

Founded in 2000, the cult brand built a global empire on pure, unadulterated fashion chaos.

The brand is the creator of the infamous 5-inch “Lita” platform boot — a shoe that generated pure rage online and still somehow managed to sell over 160,000 pairs.

Jeffrey Campbell has long occupied a unique niche in fashion: taking wildly expensive, experimental runway shock-art from heritage houses like Chanel or Balenciaga and making accessible, commercialized versions for people who love to cause a scene.

Instead of dropping over $2000 for Chanel’s runway version, shoppers can pick up Jeffrey Campbell’s viral iteration for most likely a fraction of the cost.

The main question plaguing social media isn’t just why these exist, but how anyone is expected to physically walk in them.

Without a sole to absorb impact or protect the foot, wearers are essentially forced to tiptoe everywhere or allow their bare skin to slam straight onto concrete.

Whether this is a genuine fashion evolution or simply the ultimate marketing ploy to drive outrage-clicks remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, the bizarre trend has got people talking.
