Lindsay Clancy-obsessed mom Corie Walsh, accused of hanging 2-year-old son, also had plans to kill her husband: prosecutors

The Lindsay Clancy-obsessed Illinois mother who allegedly hanged her 2-year-old son also had a plan to kill her husband, prosecutors said during her first court appearance on Tuesday.

Corie Walsh’s alleged murder plot against her spouse was revealed during a bail hearing for the 40-year-old mom charged with killing her son Barrett, NBC 5 Chicago reported. 

Walsh made statements about “poisoning [her husband] with a drink,” prosecutors said, noting that she had multiple prescription bottles. 

The twisted mom, who also tried to take her own life, was reportedly so delusional that she believed she killed her other three children as well, according to evidence presented at the hearing. 

Defense attorney Robert Kerr told the court that Walsh, of Frankfort, was “severely mentally ill” and doctors suggested she be placed into “immediate” care to prevent her from harming herself. 

The defense maintained that Walsh was in the throes of a “psychotic episode” when she allegedly hanged Barrett and he died from asphyxia. Her attorney requested she remain in medical care.

Walsh’s case generated headlines after prosecutors revealed she had been discussing the Clancy trial with friends shortly before she allegedly killed her son. 

But her lawyers on Tuesday tried to dismiss any connection to Clancy, whose high-profile triple-murder case stunningly ended in a mistrial on Friday. 

“Describing Corie to a copied Lindsay is to take an easy bait,” attorney Robert Kerr said in court, according to the local NBC station.

Kerr said mentions of Walsh being a “Lindsay Clancy copycat” are “sickening.”

In the hours leading up to the killing, Walsh was frantically sending messages to friends that were “confusing” and “out of character,” and said she believed that Clancy’s husband killed their children, not their mother.

“It was manslaughter, please I’m really freaking out,” Walsh wrote to friends during jury deliberations on Sept. 1.

A few hours after she sent the text, Barrett was found dead and Walsh was found in the bathroom fully clothed in a bathtub of bloody water, with wounds to her wrists and thighs, prosecutors said.

Kerr told the court that his client was “severely mentally ill” and she was diagnosed with “grief psychotic disorder” at the hospital following the alleged killing. 

Walsh’s husband was not in court, although her attorney said that he has “unwavering” support and love for her.

He cooperated with police and social workers.
