A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder as a domestic violence offence after police discovered the body of a 69-year-old man in a home north of Brisbane.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said officers were called to the property on Winifred Street in Burpengary shortly before 9am on Friday to reports of an injured man.

Upon arriving, officers found two men in the home, with the older man unresponsive suffering blunt force trauma wounds.

He was declared deceased at the scene.

A crime scene was established shortly after officers arrived, and the 35-year-old man was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count of murder as a domestic violence offence on Friday evening.

On Friday afternoon, Harbison said the two men had known each other, but could not confirm whether the pair were related.

Preliminary investigations had found neither man had breached any domestic violence orders that might have been placed against them.

Harbison said officers were piecing together a roughly 12-hour window leading to the older man’s death, spanning from Thursday night to Friday morning when officers were unable to revive him.

“We’re not getting a particular image of any particular time where an incident’s happened,” he said.

Harbison would not be drawn on where the man had died, and could not reveal whether officers had located a weapon on Friday,

Photos from the scene show a house, two cars and a trailer cordoned off by police tape. Police suspected there was no ongoing threat to the community.

“We do believe some type of weapon or implement has been used and that is still under investigation, as is the crime scene forensic analysis of the scene,” he said.

“The crime scene remains in place and, and likely will do for a couple of days.”

Police asked anyone who might have information linked to the 69-year-old’s alleged murder, or have witnessed anything in Winifred Street about the time of the incident to come forward.
