McDonald’s is feeling extra continental this fall.
The iconic fast-food chain is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, home to its corporate offices and an HQ restaurant famed for its rotating Global Favorites menu of international items otherwise unavailable in the US.
The current Global Favorites Menu is exclusively available at the HQ franchise location at 1035 W. Randolph St., and is rumored to end in mid-November.
The calorically compacted menu lists each item alongside its alleged country of origin.
In terms of mains, the Bacon BBQ Stack hails from the UK and is laden with smoked swine, BBQ sauce, and pepper jack cheese, presumably because our British counterparts can handle the sacred combination of sodium and sugar with greater aplomb than we can.
Other choices include the Bacon Hot Honey McCrispy from Canada and Spicy Garlic Black Pepper McNuggets from Japan.
The menu also features onion rings from Australia, despite the fact that many Australian Redditors claim no such item exists in their country.
“They tend to make up countries of origin at times,” revealed one commenter.
Others were outright inspired by the new offerings.
“I wish I wasn’t high when seeing this,” admitted a hungry stoner.
Others were outraged that these items are not available full time and in all corners of the US.
“They don’t think onion rings, BBQ bacon burgers, and salted caramel dipped cones would sell here? Try treating us as well as you do the rest of the world, and maybe we’ll come back. Hell, I’d come back if they just de-s–tfied the fries.”
Feces aside, for sweet treats, those in the Chicago area can indulge in a Salted Caramel Dipped Cone from South Korea and/or an OREO Salted Caramel McFlurry.
One commenter offered an easy, albeit risky hack for recreating the aforementioned McFlurry at your local outpost.
“You can make the salted caramel McFlurry by getting a regular Oreo McFlurry and asking them to add caramel. It’s a lot of sugar, and sadly, unless your McDonald’s is exceptional, the caramel will just be lumped on top of the unstirred (“flurried”) Oreo bits.”
Global Favorites also include McPops donuts that are filled with Dulce de Leche, Berry, and Chocolate Hazelnut, representing Chile, Switzerland, and Spain, respectively.
Instagram food influencer @snackolator posted a review of the Australian Onion Rings:
“I am a big onion rings fan, and these are great,” he testified.
“They remind me a lot of Culver’s onion rings with a nice breading and some good flavor throughout.”
Others echoed his exaltation.
“FINALLY MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!” exclaimed one allium allegiant commenter.
“Had them a couple weeks ago, had to double up on my order,” admitted another.
“Wish these things would go nationwide,” lamented a third.
Food influencer Tommy Winkler has previously gone viral for his unfiltered reviews of McDonald’s Global Favorites Menu.
Meanwhile, in January, the overlords of the golden arches revealed they would be rolling out high-profile menu changes this year, including its biggest burger ever, an official “secret menu,” and a Pokémon partnership.
The strategy reflects McDonald’s broader push to lean on nostalgia and popular partnerships to drive traffic and loyalty at a time when consumers are growing more cautious about spending.
