Former Miss North Carolina USA winner Brittany Boltinhouse is planning a legal challenge to the “wrongful and unjustified” decision to strip her of her title, a law firm representing her announced Monday — calling it a “disturbing example of shameful cancel culture.”
Boltinhouse, 27, was stripped of her title last week, a little over a month after her victory, a decision blamed on a “thorough review of recently surfaced information.”
It came soon after reports that years ago she had penned a slew of posts under an alias using the N-word — while Boltinhouse claimed she was axed because of her “beliefs as a conservative Christian woman.”
She has now retained lawyers at the North Carolina law firm Mincey Bell Rhoades to challenge what it’s branding the “wrongful and unjustified” decision and “yet another disturbing example of shameful cancel culture.”
“[Boltinhouse] rightfully earned and won [the title] through merit, achievement and the profound public support of millions across the world,” Patrick Mincey said in a letter.
“The pageant organizers have persistently refused to identify any specific conduct that would justify stripping Brittany of her title,” he said of the vague wording of the decision.
“Their unwillingness to cite concrete facts or violations speaks for itself: due process, fairness, and transparency have been conspicuously tossed aside. We will hold them to account.
“The pageant’s conduct is indefensible. The truth and evidence will be revealed in a court of law.
“Our client earned her crown and the respect of millions who support her. Brittany Boltinhouse will not be canceled.”
Lawyers have claimed Boltinhouse is “yet another disturbing example of shameful cancel culture targeting an accomplished young woman solely because of her deeply held religious and political beliefs.”
Boltinhouse, the first Honduran to win the title, broke her silence last Friday about her sudden dethroning, suggesting her conservative, religious beliefs may have played a part.
“AlI can say is that I think and believe that my title was ripped from me because of my beliefs,” she told The Carolina Journal.
“I am proud of my faith — I am proud of my standards.”
The crown has now been passed to Miss North Carolina USA first runner-up Myla Hadley, who will represent the Tar Heel State in the Miss USA pageant, which kicks off in Miami on Aug. 24.
Hadley didn’t address the alleged racism scandal that has engulfed the pageant when she accepted the crown.
“I understand the seriousness and level of prestige that this title carries and I can confidently say that both my team and I are ready to take this on,” business broker Hadley, 24, wrote in a now-expired Instagram Stories post.
“I am ready to represent North Carolina. Thank you all again for your motivation, support, and well wishes.”
