NYC first lady Rama Duwaji liked social media post supporting Palestinian ‘resistance’ after Oct. 7 attack: report

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife Rama Duwaji liked Instagram posts throwing support behind Palestinian “resistance” in the immediate aftermath of Hamas’ murderous Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel, according to a report Friday.

The inflammatory posts from lefty groups included one published on the day of the day of the sickening assault that showed livestreamed footage of attackers riding on a commandeered Israel Defense Forces vehicle with a caption about “resisting apartheid,” Jewish Insider reported.

promoting a protest that encouraged people “to stand with the people of Palestine, who have the right to resist apartheid, occupation & oppression” while another deployed the inflammatory phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” Friday.

The report said Duwaji, 28, also liked a post on Oct. 7, 2023 from the left-wing organization People’s Forum that advertised a protest against Israel as the Jewish state launched its retaliatory military campaign in Gaza.

“Tomorrow, join us to stand with the people of Palestine, who have the right to resist apartheid, occupation & oppression,” the caption read.

Another post that Duwaji reportedly liked was about the protest the next day, in which the caption read, “FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, PALESTINE WILL BE FREE!”

“Thousands have taken to the streets in #NYC to stand with Palestinian resistance and call for an end to all U.S. aid to apartheid Israel,” it said.

The third post with the footage, from the lefty group The Slow Factory, also included photos of a fence being bulldozed over with the text “breaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation” and of Palestinians celebrating, along with the words “resisting apartheid since 1948.”

The caption on the side of the post described Gaza as an “open air prison” while detailing conditions inside the Palestinian enclave.

“Over half of the population of Gaza are children: if and when the occupation forces retaliate against this resistance, this is the population who will be punished,” the caption stated.

Since Jewish Insider’s reporting emerged about Duwaji’s social media activity, her account appears to no longer like the eyebrow-raising posts.

Mamdani, in response to the Jewish Insider report, argued his wife was a “private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall,” while calling her, “the love of my life.”

“I, however, was elected to represent all 8.5 million people the city,” Mamdani, who has also faced criticism for his anti-Israel stances, told reporters at an unrelated press conference.

“And I believe that it’s my responsibility because of that role to answer questions about my thoughts and my politics, and my stances.”

Mamdani’s spouse has previously faced scrutiny for her strong support of the Palestinian cause amid the ongoing tension in the region.

City Hall did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.

But the Mamdani administration told Jewish Insider that the democratic socialist mayor has repeatedly condemned Hamas.

“Mayor Mamdani has been clear and consistent: Hamas is a terrorist organization, October 7th was a horrific war crime, and he has condemned that violence unequivocally,” a spokesperson said.
