He flunked that test.
Among the many sneaky ways a woman can “test” her boyfriend, this is one of the most innocent, yet social media’s reaction suggests otherwise.
In a now-viral TikTok video posted by Toni and Austin, a couple who go by the username @thestandardta, Toni shows her boyfriend a massive leaf, to which he replies, “It’s beautiful, just like you.”
Most women would blush at the compliment, but instead, Toni gave the camera a frustrated look.
As silly and maybe pointless as this interaction seemed, Toni was doing a parody of the “leaf test” — a viral social media trend in which couples see if they’re truly compatible with each other based on how the other person reacts to…a leaf.
You can’t make this up.
The couple was joking, but if anyone took this playful test seriously, it was the millions of viewers who were convinced these two don’t belong together.
The Post reached out to the couple for comment.
One commenter cut right to the chase: “Do you even like him?”
“He deserves someone better,” quipped someone else.
“She ain’t the one king,” read another comment.
People really defended Austin as someone else said, “Girl how dare you make me take a man’s side?”
“Take the complement damn,” someone else chimed in.
This isn’t the first time and certainly won’t be the last time social media will find ways to figure out if a relationship will last or not.
Remember the “olive theory?”
“Every successful relationship follows the olive theory,” a content creator explained. “It’s from ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ and it says that a couple is perfect for each other if one person loves olives and the other hates them… the whole opposite attracts thing.”
Then there’s the “bird theory,” where a woman will excitedly tell her boyfriend or husband, “I saw a bird today,” to see how he reacts. “He should be interested in talking to you about your day and having a conversation with you,” as explained in another video.
For those rolling their eyes, one commenter brought up a good point: “For those throwing shade at this method, it is just an example of how connection should work. If your man doesn’t show interest in you, doesn’t ask questions about your life and only talks about himself, those are red flags…”
