Rates hike hurts those who can least afford it

It is clear that there is no nexus between the government and the RBA when it comes to running the economy (“RBA raises rates to 15-year high”, September 30). For a start, the government is running a deficit budget (and has been for some years), which is expansionary. On the other hand, the RBA is raising interest rates, which in economic terms is contractionary. The running of the RBA as an independent organisation to the government is something I have never been able to work my head around...
