She’s living the life she wants to live.
Most people know Enya as the widely successful Irish singer who has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide, beating out the hit-making boy band One Direction, making her one of the world’s best-selling music artists.
Contrary to what most would assume of someone who has reached that level of success and stardom, Enya has chosen to live a more subdued, quiet life tucked away in her Dublin castle for most of her career.
While most rich and famous buy multiple million-dollar homes, the 64-year-old has remained in the same reported $4.3 million Manderley Castle, a secluded Victorian-style mansion in the oceanside village of Killiney, which she purchased back in 1997, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Although the castle is enormous, a private Enya, who is one of nine children and is described as a serious recluse, has done whatever she can to make it feel like her own little universe.
She reportedly added four additional feet to a stone wall that stands by the home’s massive wooden gates to protect her privacy, along with the surveillance cameras throughout the property.
The home’s six bedrooms and bathrooms were completely renovated by the singer when she moved in. Photos of the inside of the home are nonexistent, but one could imagine its beauty as the bathrooms are filled with Lalique glass and airy shutters on the windows, replaced by curtains in the “Only Time” singer’s bedroom to see the Irish sea that surrounds her home.
“I open those shutters, and the sea, it’s different ev-er-y day,” she said in an interview with BuzzFeed. “It’s very inspiring to me. I just look at the view, and if it’s overcast and raining, no matter: I never tire of it.” Her bedroom, Enya tells me, is her favorite room.
The real icing on the castle cake is that the home is occupied solely by Enya and her 12 cats — not husband or kids in sight.
“Throughout the music business there’s no one else who is so successful about whom so little is known. She doesn’t socialise, she’s barely seen out of the house, there aren’t any clues in her lyrics about her life,” a source told The Sun.
“We don’t see much of her. She lives like a queen. She is a recluse,” her uncle Noel Duggan said, according to the outlet.
