Janice Creenaune of Austinmer understands that “this is not a lost friendship column” but she couldn’t resist: “Is that the same John Wall (C8), one time St George grade cricketer, the best mate of my long-term ‘first love’, both of Sydney Tech High, and who married my childhood school friend, and captain of Carlton Central Primary School, Denise? I would love a catch-up.”

Having not actually fallen off his chair, Ron Montague (C8) of Enfield happily reports that things are “all good out my way, no broken bones, although one of my old compositor mates sent me a message saying he nearly fell off his chair when he saw my name in C8”.

Resulting in yet another lyrical creation from Jim Dewar of Davistown: Those who don’t make it despair, They fret and they pull at their hair; But it seems that, of late, To crack Column 8, You just need to fall off your chair.

Shout out to Mr Stephanie Edwards (C8) of Leichhardt, who, according to the missus, has plenty going on as the resident gardener/handyman. “AI doesn’t do mowing, weeding etc either.”

“Ouch! No Friar’s Balsam (C8) for me,” declares Sharon McGuinness of Thirroul. “I’m still enduring the trauma of our Nan tending my burst sunburn blister with the dreaded FB when I was a kid in the ’60s.”

“What wimps,” counters Brian McDonald of Willoughby. “We had a few cuts when growing up in the ’60s. Friars Balsam was nothing compared with good old metho. It stung to make us tough and made sure we didn’t get another cut or scratch in the future.”

“How about Rawleigh’s Salve?” offers Judy Jones of Thornleigh. “For Man and Beast. Still healing gravel grazes and barbed-wire scratches today.” Chris Robinson of Guyra agrees and recalls it being delivered “by our friendly Rawleigh rep, right to our doorstep”. Please keep in mind, readers, we just about did the “Rawleigh man” to death less than a year ago.

“After reading about fox and foxen (C8), I’m reminded of my frequent query,” posits Richard Keyes of Enfield. “If there are bridal parties, why aren’t there groomal parties as well?”

Allan Gibson of Cherrybrook has an addition to the prime ministerial playlist (C8): “My guess is that Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty is the perfect track to be played in the C1-plated COMCAR as it drives DJ Albo around in style.”
