Former Survivor Greece contestant Stavros Floros is suing producers of the show after an on-set accident led to his leg being severed above the knee.
In a $100 million lawsuit obtained by Us, Floros, 22, alleged that the leg injury occurred when he was struck by a tour boat propeller as he was spearfishing for food on May 11, 2026. Floros claimed that Survivor Greece allowed castaways to swim in open water in an area that was heavily populated by tourists in the Dominican Republic. Floros’ attorneys criticized the safety protocol on the reality competition show, as Floros allegedly saw no warning markers, safety boats or protected zones. Per the court documents, Floros said his leg was lost in the ocean and he was only kept alive by “a tourniquet applied by a stranger aboard the offending tourist boat.”
He was later transferred to a Miami hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries during a 61-day hospitalization, according to the lawsuit.
“I want the world to know the truth: that I went onto a reality show and ended up with only one leg at 22 years old, having felt like I was slowly dying,” Floros said in a statement to Us. “I want people to know that they didn’t look after us, that I haven’t received the proper support from the production company, and that no matter what happens, you must always keep your head held high and keep faith in God.”
He added, “I hope this case inspires people going through any kind of struggle and makes them feel like they aren’t alone. I hope it gives them courage and a mental boost, so they never give up. I also hope it helps prevent similar situations that cause this kind of harm to people and serves as an example for producers of similar concepts to truly look after the people under their responsibility.”
His attorney, Jason Margulies, told Us in a statement that the lawsuit could have far-reaching consequences beyond Floros’ specific injury.
“This is an egregious matter where a young and successful influencer has been left with catastrophic permanent injuries as a result of the callous disregard for safety by a large multi-national production company entrusted to produce the show Survivor,” Margulies said. “We see heartbreaking events like this more and more often. When huge companies take shortcuts and cut corners to maximize profits, it often comes at the cost of public safety, which is absolutely unacceptable.”
Margulies continued, “We have dedicated our careers to righting these wrongs and holding companies accountable for decisions which lead to exploitation and injuries of unsuspecting individuals. We look forward to using all of our expertise and resources to hold the producers of Survivor Greece accountable in Miami, Florida for the preventable events which have left our [22]-year-old client catastrophically disabled and disfigured.”
The suit names Survivor Greece production companies Acun Medya, Acun Medya Global, Acun LLC, Acun Ilicali and Greek TV channel Skai TV as defendants.
Greek TV channel Skai TV told local publications at the time that it was “suspending” the airing of Survivor Greece until “the causes of the incident are fully investigated.”
A spokesperson for production company AcunMedya told the Toronto Sun that the accident occurred when Floros was “diving without a surface marker buoy in an area frequented by tourist vessels.”
“Following our initial announcement regarding the serious accident involving a Survivor contestant in the Dominican Republic, and out of a sense of responsibility toward the public and, above all, toward the contestant himself, we consider it necessary to clarify the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred,” the company said.
The statement continued, “According to the information available so far, the accident appears to have happened when a tourist boat injured the contestant while he was spearfishing outside the competitive process of the reality show.”
“From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant, while the competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances,” AcunMedya’s statement concluded. “The contestant remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger.”
Floros has documented his recovery via Instagram, where he initially described his survival from the accident as “a miracle” in May.
“It’s been a month since everything changed… In the most difficult and painful week of my recovery my supports: God, Virgin Mary, my family and of course you,” he wrote to fans on June 16. “You, who haven’t let the situation be forgotten and show undivided interest! Thank you for everything from my heart.”
His most recent Instagram update on July 30 featured a video where Floros was using a walker to get around.
“Keep making progress,” he captioned the footage.
