It’s just after 8.30am on an August Friday morning outside Reddam House North Shore. At the school gate, a mother chats with a staff member about anxiety.

Do students have a reason to be anxious? Friday at Reddam is cycle test day, where every pupil from year 3 upwards sits a 50-minute test on a range of subjects including English, mathematics and science.
