Taffle Fire burning dangerously close to Riverside County homes prompts evacuations

A fast-moving wildfire exploded to 55 acres Friday afternoon in Riverside County, prompting evacuation orders and warnings as firefighters battled a dangerous rate of spread and an immediate threat to structures.

The Taffle Fire was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the 44200 block of Taffle Ranch Road, south of Red Mountain Road in the unincorporated area of Sage, according to CAL FIRE.

The blaze rapidly ballooning to 55 acres and was 5% contained as of 3:09 p.m., with officials warning that shifting winds were challenging retardant lines.

One structure has been reported involved, while additional structures were threatened as the fire raced through the area.
