Taylor Swift and her dad, Scott Swift, have had a very special bond with each other throughout her life.
Scott and Andrea Swift tied the knot in February 1988 and welcomed Taylor in 1989 and son Austin in 1992.
When Taylor wanted to pursue a career in music, Scott relocated his financial advisory company to Nashville.
“My dad believed in me, even when I didn’t,” Taylor shared in a 2009 interview of her father’s support. “He always knew I could do this. I’m sure that everyone in Reading [Pennsylvania] remembers just how much he talked about me … I just love my dad for believing in his little girl.”
Scott has continued to show up for Taylor throughout the years, including handing out guitar picks to fans at the Eras Tour and showing up to Kansas City Chiefs games with her to watch her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
While Scott enjoys showing up for Taylor, he has also had to deal with some health battles of his own.
In an essay for Elle in 2019, Taylor discussed her mom’s cancer battle, noting that her dad had previously been diagnosed with cancer. She did not share any more details.
“Both of my parents have had cancer,” she wrote at the time.
Nearly six years later, Us Weekly reported that Scott had a quintuple bypass heart surgery and was recovering from the health scare. TMZ, who first reported the news, claimed that Taylor, Austin and Andrea were by Scott’s side amid the surgery, which came after a routine check-up.

He Moved the Family to Nashville In Order For Her to Pursue a Music Career
Scott and Andrea moved from Pennsylvania from Nashville when Taylor was a child so she could pursue a career in music.
“She was always singing music when she was 3, 5, 6, 7 years old,” Scott said in an interview with UDaily in 2009. “It’s Taylor doing what she likes to do.”
She Loves Having Her Dad Support Her on Tour
Throughout the years, Scott has continued to support Taylor on tour, noting that he is a “social butterfly.”
“My dad is along the ride for this trip, hanging out and talking to every person he comes in contact with,” Taylor wrote in a Myspace blog post in 2009. “He’s a social butterfly, and loves being on tour. He loves it so much, he thinks it’s absolutely hilarious to mess with me and try to embarrass me as much as possible.”
Taylor described a time when she was walking into the hotel lobby after dinner and she heard a voice scream, ‘Hey! That’s Taylor Swift.”
“‘Dad. Please stop doing that,’” she recalled.
Scott attended several of Taylor’s epic Eras Tour shows along with Andrea and her brother, Austin. While at the shows, Scott has continued to pass out Taylor’s guitar picks and sometimes even snacks for fans.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads but mostly mine, who called me yesterday to remind me he still has guitar picks from the Red Tour, ‘if they’re needed,’” Taylor wrote via X in June 2021.
Taylor even made a handmade “Dad of Headliner” backstage pass for her dad in March 2023 at the start of the Eras Tour.
“Made my Dad’s tour credential,” Taylor captioned the Instagram Story at the time. “We are a small family business.”
She References Her Love For Her Dad Multiple Times in Her Music
Taylor has referenced the love she has for her dad in a few songs, including “Best Day” on her Fearless album.
“I have an excellent father/His strength is making me stronger,” Taylor wrote in the song.
In addition to the “Best Day,” Taylor also included a reference to her dad on her Speak Now song “Never Grow Up.”
“Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room/Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home,” she shared in the lyrics.
He Always Tries to Protect Her
In Taylor’s Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, Scott was seen as being very ery protective over Taylor when she decided to break her political silence and support two Democratic candidates in Tennessee in 2018.
“I’ve read the entire [statement] and … right now, I’m terrified. I’m the guy that went out and bought armored cars,” Scott told Taylor in the documentary, before she released her statement on social media.
Following the documentary’s release, Taylor noted that she understood where her father was coming from —but his concern wasn’t enough to stop her from speaking out.
“This was a situation where, from a humanity perspective, and from what my moral compass was telling me I needed to do, I knew was right, and I really didn’t care about repercussions,” she said in a 2020 interview with Variety. “My dad is terrified of threats against my safety and my life, and he has to see how many stalkers we deal with on a daily basis, and know that this is his kid. It’s where he comes from.”
He Supports Her Relationship With Travis Kelce
Scott has attended several Kansas City Chiefs games alongside Taylor in support of Kelce, often while wearing Chiefs merch — and allegedly has said that Kelce has “made the biggest impact” on Taylor’s life.
In October 2024, a girl named Taylor Moore claimed that she was sitting next to Scott on a Southwest flight and mentioned how much “he loves Travis” for Taylor.
“I did not ask anything about Travis,” she clarified in a TikTok video. “He did say out of all of her boyfriends in the last 12 years that Travis has made the biggest impact and that Travis has a phenomenal family and he actually said that he knew Jason Kelce’s wife’s dad [Ed McDevitt] before they started dating and so he said … ‘I knew they [the family] were amazing.’”
She Sometimes Will Post Funny Clips of Him on Social Media
Taylor has continued to share funny clips of her relationship with her dad throughout the years.
In July 2023, Taylor posted a TikTok video of her driving in a golf cart backstage at the Eras Tour while Scott followed behind on a segway.
“My dads on his segway s*** again,” she joked in the caption.
After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February 2024, Taylor shared another funny clip of Scott and her mom sitting down in a booth at an afterparty in Las Vegas.
“It’s a friends and family party they said,” Taylor wrote in text positioned over the TikTok video. “Bring your parents they said.”
