Teachers at Victorian government schools have agreed to rolling half-day strikes throughout the state in term 2.
Victoria’s teachers will embark on more industrial action in term 2, with rolling stoppages across the state, but not another full-day strike.
But in a warning to the state government and parents across the state, the Australian Education Union’s Victorian branch president has not ruled out additional escalation.
The AEU’s Justin Mullaly told reporters on Friday that regional half-day stoppages would be held in term 2, which runs from late April to late June.
“They’ll commence in the third week of term, and it will see regions of the state take stop-work action so multiple local schools in a particular geographic area will all stop work at the same time, and that they will converge and rally at a local state Labor MP’s office,” Mullaly said.
The half-day strikes mean there won’t be morning classes, he said.
Negotiations between the AEU and the Department of Education over teachers’ push for better pay and working conditions were held on Friday morning and are ongoing. Union members have agreed to hold more industrial action.
Mullaly said there had been no new offer on pay rises from the government on Friday morning.
