Before Ryan Edwards proposed to girlfriend Amanda Conner, two important people had to grant permission.
In Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek of the Thursday, April 24, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Ryan, 37, asked his 16-year-old son, Bentley, to come over “so we can talk.”
“Usually when somebody says that, it’s not a good thing,” Maci Bookout shared in the preview clip. “You don’t like much talking. It will actually be pretty cool coming to his house.”
While Maci initially joked that her ex may want to talk about birth control, viewers quickly learned that Ryan had completely different plans.
After Bentley arrived at the house, Ryan also asked Amanda’s son Brandon to join the conversation.
“So the reason why I wanted you guys here to talk to you guys was to ask if everybody was OK if I ask your mom to marry her?” he shared. “I’m going to ask her tonight.”
Without hesitation, both Bentley and Brandon expressed their support before whispering one important question.
“Are you nervous?” Bentley asked.
Ryan replied, “Absolutely. I’m not even going to lie to you. I just wanted to make sure it was OK with you guys because if you said no, I would have done it anyway. Just kidding.”
Back in January, Ryan and Amanda confirmed via Instagram that they were engaged after what appeared to be a proposal during a snowy family vacation.
While Teen Mom fans will have to watch the show to see exactly how Ryan asked the important question, he revealed in this week’s preview clip that Amanda was wearing her engagement ring long before any proposal.
“Amanda has the ring,” Ryan shared. “I bought the ring a long time ago. I brought it home to show her and then she took it. She’s already wearing the ring.”
Ryan and Bentley’s latest talk is more proof that the father-son duo’s relationship is growing after a few years apart.
Now that Ryan is sober, the former 16 and Pregnant star said he has been able to build a stronger bond with his son.
“If he ever needs me, I’m here for him and I know that for a little bit, he was worried about me going to jail and then me going to rehab and all this stuff,” he shared in a January episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “You hate to worry your kid. As a parent, it should be the other way around. At least I’m here.”
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs on MTV Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
