An alleged drunk driver struck and killed two pedestrians before slamming his car into a North Hollywood home in a terrifying wreck caught on video Sunday.
The driver is now in custody after smashing into a car parked in a driveway and leaving a hole in the wall of a home in North Hollywood.
The driver, identified as Vidal Cruz Jr. of Pacoima, northeastern Los Angeles, was arrested after the deadly chain of events that saw his vehicle crash into three parked cars and a home, ABC 7 reported.
The incident happened on Colfax Avenue around 2:25 a.m. Sunday, when Cruz Jr., 31, drove his gray Acura into a man and a woman who had just stepped out of a parked Toyota Camry, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The male victim, in his 30s, died at the scene while the female victim, in her 50s, died later at the hospital.
Dramatic video showed the suspect striking the cars parked in the driveway of the home while someone slept on the other side of the wall.
“He wasn’t as scared or as shocked as he should’ve been. That’s what I noticed,” Diego Rojas, who lives at the home, told ABC 7 of the driver. “He was just trying to get out of his car as if nothing happened, but two people passed away.”
The LAPD said Cruz was booked on two counts of murder, with his bail set at $4 million.
“It’s just crazy. I just got that car, and you would think that when you’re home, it’s the safest place you can have your stuff, but you never know when it’s your time and when bad things can occur,” another neighbor, Walter Morales, told ABC 7. “It’s just crazy to me, and I’m still processing it.”
