A Virginia man hit nearly triple the speed limit on his motorcycle while racing to get McDonald’s breakfast before it ended for the day, he told police.
Police pulled over the biker on Aug. 16 after clocking him at 72 mph in a 25 mph zone in Manassas — about 40 minutes outside Washington, DC — according to body-cam footage the Manassas City Police Department posted to X on Monday.
“I was movin’ a little quick, wasn’t I?” the rider asked as the officer approached him.
“Way too quick,” the officer replied.
“I was trying to hit the McDonald’s breakfast,” the man said as he handed over his license and registration, adding that he was in such a rush to beat the switch to the lunch menu that he didn’t even put on socks before leaving.
The officer’s body camera shows the stop happened at 10:43 a.m. on a Sunday, when most McDonald’s locations serve breakfast until 11 a.m.
“I can see you were rushing,” the officer said. “Seventy-two is way too fast.”
The man appeared stunned when told how fast he was actually going.
The officer, who told the man he was a fellow motorcycle rider, reminded him how dangerous it is to ride at that speed.
The man said he had already told his father what happened, and that his dad was “yelling at me, and freaking out” over him riding like a “dumb ass.”
“He’s not wrong,” the officer replied. “At the end of the day, nobody expects that phone call.”
The officer gave the rider a ticket for reckless driving and other traffic-related charges — then left him with a parting warning.
“First of all, you know. You ride a bike. I ride a bike. The first thing that’s going to fly off that bike is you,” the cop said.
“At 72, if someone pulls in front of you? Dude, you’re done. You got to be mindful.”
Police also captioned the video with a warning to other riders.
“Speeding can turn a ride into a tragedy. Slow down, stay alert, and ride safe. Your life is worth the extra time,” the department wrote.
Nationwide, 5,730 motorcyclists died in 2025, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Roughly 36% to 37% of fatal motorcycle crashes involved a speeding rider, the agency found.
More than 100 people died in motorcycle-involved crashes in Virginia in 2025, according to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
Speeding is estimated to have played a role in 36 to 56 of those deaths.
