The family of a woman allegedly murdered in Perth’s south told police they were concerned for her safety three months before her death.

Young mother Kah Ming Tan was found with critical injuries by paramedics at a home on Taree Street in St James about 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Younis Qambari has been charged with murder over the death of Kah Ming Tan in St James on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old was taken to Royal Perth Hospital but was declared dead.

Paramedics notified police, who launched a homicide investigation, and her partner Younis Qambari has since been charged with murder.

The 38-year-old appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday morning in a blue forensics suit, and spoke only to confirm he understood the charge against him.

A WA Police spokesperson said detectives would allege Tan’s murder was the result of injuries she received in the days before her death.

This masthead can reveal Tan’s family called police in April at least twice to express concerns about her wellbeing, and told police they believed there was a potential risk to her safety.

The family member had allegedly seen injuries on Tan’s body, and had phoned officers to express their concerns.

This masthead does not suggest Qambarai was responsible for either the risk to her safety, or the alleged injuries.

In a statement, WA police said they were aware concerned parties had previously made contact.

“WA police are aware of multiple previous interactions with police and are examining those, and any other interactions there may have been with other agencies,” a spokesperson said.

“Each of these interactions are being examined as part of a thorough investigation, as per standard practice.”

On Thursday, Tan’s young children were moved from the address, and investigations into her death are ongoing.

WA Premier Roger Cook said on Wednesday it was his understanding that children were present at the home on Wednesday night.

“It sounds like a horrific situation and one that took place in the presence of children,” he said.

“I obviously want to thank the first responders as well, who would have been confronted by some very distressing scenes.

“Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted.”

WA Police were contacted for further comment about Tan’s family’s contact with police.
