Where you can go on holiday in Europe for less than €100 a day

The past year has seen travel habits change massively, with long-haul flights out as jet fuel prices soar.

Still committed to travelling internationally this September? Then you might just want to take your pick from this list of 13 city breaks across the continent.

Thomas Cook crunched the numbers across more than 50 popular destinations to find the best-value breaks under €100 per night next month.

To calculate that, the travel agency looked at the average costs of things like a three-star hotel stay, a meal at an inexpensive restaurant, a coffee, a daily bus pass, and paid attraction tickets.

Top value city breaks

The result? If you want the most bang for your buck, Albania’s capital Tirana is where you need to be headed as it has a daily approximate cost of €59 per person.

Three-star accommodation comes out at an average of €32 per person, per night, while dinner at an affordable restaurant is €8.50 and a local beer will set you back just €1.50.

Second place went to Bucharest in Romania, where dinner out costs just over €12 on average, and a daily bus pass is around €1.50.

Two places in Türkiye made the top five: Antalya in joint third with Warsaw in Poland, and Istanbul in fifth.

Hotels in Istanbul were among the most affordable, priced at an average of €28 per person, while an inexpensive meal was between €8 and €9.

“Eastern European and Turkish city destinations consistently deliver affordability and with growing tourism numbers, they won’t remain a secret for long,” Nicholas Smith, dynamic packages director at Thomas Cook, said.
