Less than half of all year 3 students in Western Australia met proficiency standards in grammar and punctuation, the latest NAPLAN data has revealed, with just under 20 per cent needing additional support.

And while results have declined across all testing areas for the state’s year 3s when compared to scores in 2023, writing and numeracy have taken the biggest hit.

The latest data for 2026 testing was released by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority late on Tuesday night.
