5 Top New Movies and TV Shows to Watch This Week on Netflix, Hulu and More (May 4-8)

If you’re looking for the best shows and movies to watch during the first week of May, head to streaming as soon as possible.

Platforms like HBO Max, Netflix and more are home to the streaming premieres of exciting new movies and all-new shows to keep you entertained.

Watch With Us has put together a guide for the best things you can watch between May 4 and May 8 on streaming.

Our first pick is the Netflix series Lord of the Flies, based on the novel of the same name about a group of young boys who go feral after being stranded on an island.

‘Lord of the Flies’ Season 1 — Netflix

Netflix’s upcoming Lord of the Flies series will be the third adaptation of the acclaimed novel by William Golding, taught in many a high school English class. The widely known premise involves a group of schoolboys who are stranded on a deserted island following a plane crash. While they initially attempt to organize themselves with leadership and a sense of order, fear and isolation take hold, giving way to power struggles and increasingly violent behavior. The story is an unsettling look at how easily civilization can fall apart.

Lord of the Flies is a co-production between England and Australia, and thus already premiered back in February in both countries, while Netflix is hosting the upcoming U.S. streaming premiere. Reviews for the series have been largely positive, with critics offering praise for the striking visuals, atmospheric style, psychological depth and strong acting from a mostly unknown cast of child actors.

Stream Lord of the Flies on May 4.

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ (2026) — Netflix

Remarkably Bright Creatures is an upcoming Netflix original movie based on the popular novel of the same name by Shleby Van Pelt. The story follows Tova (Sally Field), a widow working the night shift at an aquarium. Tova ends up forming an unlikely bond with Marcellus, a highly intelligent octopus. As their connection grows, Remarkably Bright Creatures weaves together themes related to grief and loneliness, as a long-buried mystery surrounding Tova’s past is slowly uncovered.

Directed by Where the Crawdads Sing filmmaker Olivia Newman, this film adaptation stars Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Beth Grant and Alfred Molina as the internal monologue of Marcellus, in addition to Field.  Remarkably Bright Creatures is a fantastic and moving story (and will make you think twice about eating octopus ever again), and we’re personally very excited to see it get the big-screen treatment.

Stream Remarkably Bright Creatures on May 8.

‘M.I.A.’ Season 1 — Peacock

This new crime thriller set in South Florida comes from executive producer Bill Dubuque, the co-creator of Ozark, so we have high hopes for this one. M.I.A follows Etta Tiger Jonze (Shannon Gisela), a young woman whose life falls apart after her family’s drug-running empire collapses in the wake of tragedy. Etta finds herself forced into Miami’s criminal underworld, and she undergoes a dangerous transformation as she navigates violence, betrayal and what she is truly capable of.

M.I.A will have Karen Campbell (whose credits include Outlander and Dexter) serving as both showrunner and executive producer. In addition to Gisela, the cast also includes Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Alberto Guerra, Maurice Compte, Gerardo Celasco and Marta Milans.

Stream M.I.A. on May 7.

‘We Bury the Dead’ (2025) — Hulu

We Bury the Dead follows Ava (Daisy Ridley), a woman who travels to Tasmania after a catastrophic military disaster leaves the region overrun with zombies — initially thought to be passive but slowly turning more violent. Ava joins a body recovery unit and ultimately uses her involvement as a way to search for her missing husband (Matt Whelan) alongside a fellow volunteer named Clay (Brenton Thwaites). But as Ava moves deeper into uncharted, zombie-infested territory, the line between survival and grief begins to blur, turning her search into something far more personal and unsettling.

We Bury the Dead isn’t just a traditional zombie story. Rather than focus on a plethora of action-packed scenes filled with excessive gore, it uses the apocalypse as a backdrop for an exploration of loss, memory and the emotional weight of unfinished relationships. Ridley handily anchors the film with an emotionally raw performance, and the steady direction and eerie atmosphere help to create a truly immersive experience. We Bury the Dead is a zombie movie that sneaks up on you for more than just its scares.

Stream We Bury the Dead on May 8.

‘Legends’ Season 1 — Netflix

From The Gold creator Neil Forsyth comes this ’90s-set crime thriller inspired by real undercover customs operations targeting UK heroin-smuggling networks. British comedian Steve Coogan stars as Don, a detective who gathers a group of disparate officers and sends them deep undercover to infiltrate major drug gangs. As the operation intensifies, the line between their real selves and fabricated personas begins to blur, and the controlled sting progressively spirals out of control.

The supporting cast includes Tom Burke, Hayley Squires, Ami Ameen and Jasmine Blackborow. Watch With Us loves a great British crime show, so Legends is right up our alley. In addition to The Gold, series creator Neil Forsyth is also behind Bob Servant Independent and Scottish mystery-thriller Guilt.

Stream Legends on May 7.
