7-year-old identified after drowning at Fresno apartment complex

The family of a seven-year-old is in mourning after the young boy drown in an apartment complex swimming pool in Fresno.

Ackamus Gill was at the Summer Park Apartments pool with more than a dozen kids on Thursday when emergency crews were called to reports of a drowning at the apartment complex located at Butler and Winery, according to authorities.

Police said by the time officers and firefighters arrived, Gill had already been taken out of the pool. They immediately began CPR, and the little boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead, ABC 30 reported.

The father of the boy, James Gill, later posted a heartbreaking message on social media about losing his little boy.

“I lost my son,” Gill’s post read. “Life doesn’t feel real. Please, if you’re not immediate family, place your prayers and support here.”

Loved ones and friends reacted to the news, sending condolences and prayers to the family following the unthinkable loss of a child.

One of the pictures on Gill’s Facebook page showed a picture of his son as the family celebrated a school promotion.

A person who said they were there on Thursday reacted to the heartbreaking news, writing that they tried to give the boy CPR until the ambulance arrived.

Police said the boy was at the pool with more than 20 other kids and adults. However, no lifeguards were present, KSEE/KGPE reported.

Neighbors at the complex said that the pool had just reopened last week, amid the area’s scorching triple digit temperatures.

It is unclear how long the child was under the water and was unconscious.
