Officers who raided the apartment of Annastacia Palaszczuk’s partner on the Gold Coast are investigating a claim of sexual assault.
This masthead was told by various sources the ongoing investigation, which led to a crime scene being declared at the Burleigh Heads apartment of prominent surgeon Dr Reza Adib on Thursday, is related to an allegation of sexual assault.
Adib was spotted entering the Southport Police Station on Friday afternoon.
Queensland police are expected to provide an update later on Friday but Adib has not been arrested or charged with an offence.
This masthead does not suggest Adib is guilty of any offence. Palaszczuk, the former long-serving Labor premier of Queensland, is not involved in the ongoing investigation.
Detectives and specialist officers entered the apartment on Thursday morning, were spotted thoroughly searching the property and were later seen leaving with various items in bags.
“Police declared a crime scene at an address in Burleigh Heads [on Thursday], April 30, as part of an ongoing investigation,” the Queensland Police Service told this masthead in a statement.
Adib is a prominent surgeon, specialising in obesity procedures, who has been in a relationship with Palaszczuk since 2021.
The surgeon established his obesity clinic in Brisbane in 2004, and was nominated as the co-chairman of the Wesley Hospital’s Centre of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in 2017.
But Uniting Care, which runs the Wesley Hospital, told this masthead Adib was not currently accredited to perform operations at the hospital.
At a public event at a Gold Coast library on Thursday night while promoting her autobiography, Palaszczuk was asked about the raid at the home.
“I’m not aware of any of that, so I can’t comment,” she said.
This masthead attempted to contact Adib through his surgical clinic in Brisbane but was told no comment would be provided.
