A fiery crash in south-western Sydney has put a man in hospital after a BMW was torn in two, leaving wreckage across hundreds of metres and bringing down a power pole.
One lane of the Hume Highway westbound remained closed at Villawood until just before 7am on Monday morning, after the collision about 9.30pm on Sunday night closed the whole road for four hours.
After colliding with the power pole, snapping it in two and downing powerlines, the rear of the split BMW sedan hit a Toyota Corolla travelling in the other direction.
The rest of the wrecked BMW came to a halt in flames about 200 metres from the crash site, NSW Police said.
A 24-year-old man driving the BMW escaped the wreckage and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with suspected fractures and burns.
Another man, 48, driving the Corolla hit by the wreckage, was taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment.
Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area.
