California store worker killed trying to stop suspected shoplifters — 4 years after brother was murdered outside home

A California worker was intentionally run over multiple times by at least three suspects who allegedly stole $10 worth of face masks from his brother’s store — four years after his other brother was beaten to death.

Kourosh “Steve” Yaghoubi was working at the family-owned Giant Discount Store in South El Monte, Calif. when he confronted a man he believed was stealing from the store on Wednesday.

The unidentified shopper went into the store just after 12 p.m. and asked Yaghoubi about a box of masks, ABC Los Angeles reported.

The alleged shoplifter walked out of the store without paying for the masks.

Yaghoubi and his brother, Jamshid “Jim” Yaghoubi, followed the alleged petty thief outside the store on Durfee Avenue Drive.

A physical altercation broke out between the brothers and the man in the parking lot of the store, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Two more individuals, who had been sitting inside a dark-colored sedan, joined the brawl before the three suspects ran back to the car.

“Doors open, two other guys exit the car, and one of them punches my brother in the head, he holds his head and he goes down,” Jim Yaghoubi told the outlet.

The thieves hopped back in the car and “deliberately” reversed into the helpless Yaghoubi.

Yaghoubi’s body was tossed around as both the back and front tires rolled over him. The suspects then put the car into drive and again ran over Yaghoubi’s body.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the store for a hit-and-run but couldn’t track the sedan, saying it fled in an unknown direction.

The older Yaghoubi’s hands were stained with his brother’s blood, as he attempted to keep him breathing until help arrived.

Two of Yaghoubi’s relatives were restrained by a sheriff’s deputy when they attempted to get to their loved one’s body, according to video captured by Fox 11 Los Angeles.

First responders discovered Yaghoubi suffering from blunt force trauma.

He was declared dead at the scene, police said.

Yaghoubi was remembered as a community man who helped people and was “a real nice guy.”

“If somebody asked to give him something, he would give it to them, but he didn’t like people stealing,” Yaghoubi’s other brother John Yaghoubi said.

John Yaghoubi says he moved to the US 45 years ago, bringing his six brothers and one sister individually to the country.

“This is my second brother who died,” Jim Yaghoubi said.

Rahmatolah “Davey” Yaghoubi was beaten to death outside his Anaheim home on May 31, 2021 in an unprovoked attack.

David Steven Abbott, a suspected White supremacist who had been released from jail with a deadly weapon, attacked Yaghoubi who was gardening in his yard at the time, Fox 11 reported.

RahmatolahYaghoubi was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Abbott was charged with murder in the case.

The Yaghoubi’s mother had a difficult time getting over the loss of her son Davey, and Jim Yaghoubi is fearful of telling her about Steve’s murder.

“I’m afraid to tell her. I don’t know what to tell her. I was with her all night last night and her eyes were puffy from crying for the first one,” he said.

Police have not named any suspects in Wednesday’s homicide
